City of Lebanon recently issued the following announcement.
You Asked For It….We Listened: Bike Trail Extension Projects Planned For 2021 And 2022
Lebanon residents consistently rank trails as their top requested park and outdoor recreation amenity. Lebanon strives to promote healthy lifestyles and outstanding recreation opportunities for everyone to enjoy. Trails not only enhance the quality of life of residents, but also contribute to the overall economic vitality of a community. The City has secured over $1.5 million in grants for trail projects that are planned for 2021 and 2022.
2021 – Northern Trail Extension
As part of the N. Broadway Corridor Improvements, a section of the road was converted into a protected bike lane this year. Beginning in 2021, this bike lane will be extended up N. Broadway to Miller Road. Heading south, the trail will cut through the new Fire Station property and then run along a section of the beautiful Aylor Cook Trail behind Berry Intermediate School. The trail will then head down Water St. and Sycamore St. to South St., where it will connect to the existing Lebanon – Countryside YMCA Trail. This will create a trail system from downtown Lebanon north up to Miller Rd., connecting these neighborhoods to the trail system. The City secured an ODNR Clean Ohio Trail Fund grant to support this project. The map below provides details on the alignment.
2022 – Southern Trail Extension
The subdivisions and residents on the east side of Bypass 48 have been effectively cut off from pedestrian and bicycle access to the rest of Lebanon due to Bypass 48. The City secured an OKI grant to extend the trail from the Countryside YMCA to the south, utilizing the existing Turtlecreek Union Rd. Bridge over Bypass 48, to get across Bypass 48 and then connect to Oak Forge Subdivision and the Premier Health Bike Park. This work is being coordinated with overpass bridge improvements being performed by ODOT on the Turtlecreek Union Rd. Bridge. Once completed, this will allow residents on the east side of Bypass 48 to connect to amenities such as the Countryside YMCA and Downtown Lebanon. The map below provides details on the proposed alignment.
