Canal Winchester City Government: Rumpke Waste & Recycling Material Recovery Facility

107

Canal Winchester City Government issued the following announcement on January 8.

Earlier this week, some City staff and Council members toured the Rumpke Waste & Recycling Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Columbus.  It was an educational afternoon and a great opportunity to learn more about where our recyclables are going.  Here are a few fun facts we learned along the way:

See those big blocks behind our friends?  Each one contains about 40,000 aluminum cans

A corrugated cardboard box will recycled into another box in just 3-5 days

Glass items go to a special Rumpke facility in Dayton to be processed - the only one of it's kind in Ohio

The MRF processes 147,000 tons of recyclables a year, and they're still only at 85% capacity
