Canal Winchester City Government issued the following announcement on January 8.
Earlier this week, some City staff and Council members toured the Rumpke Waste & Recycling Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Columbus. It was an educational afternoon and a great opportunity to learn more about where our recyclables are going. Here are a few fun facts we learned along the way:
See those big blocks behind our friends? Each one contains about 40,000 aluminum cans
A corrugated cardboard box will recycled into another box in just 3-5 days
Glass items go to a special Rumpke facility in Dayton to be processed - the only one of it's kind in Ohio
The MRF processes 147,000 tons of recyclables a year, and they're still only at 85% capacity
