City of Canal Winchester issued the following announcement on January 20.
Frigid cold temperatures with nights dropping into the single digits are expected this week. Here are a few winter weather tips to keep in mind:
- Check on your elderly neighbors.
- Keep your pets inside.
- Consider having an emergency supply kit for your car.
- Bundle up if going outside, and dress in layers. Stay inside if possible.
- Be careful if using space heaters, keeping a 3-foot perimeter around them. Never use the stove as a heat source.
- To keep your pipes from freezing, let faucets slowly drip or run with a small stream. Opening cabinets can also help, allowing heat to circulate around pipes. Check the pipes on exterior walls, water meters, and service lines as an added precaution. Proper planning can help prevent busted pipes and save you thousands of dollars in repairs.
