City of Bexley issued the following announcement.
There will be planned construction at Commonwealth West athletic field starting Monday, April 18. One of the goals identified within the Commonwealth Master Plan was to improve the conditions of the athletic field space at both of the east and west fields. Through this project, we will install a drainage system below the athletic field space. An irrigation system will also be installed to better maintain the field during the dry season. Finally, soil improvements will be made as well as turf replacement to both improve the quality of the playing surface and better protect from wear and tear.
Please note, this project does not change the existing footprint of the current athletic field space at Commonwealth West and no trees will be removed. This will strictly be a restoration/enhancement of the existing field space at Commonwealth West. The project is scheduled to take an estimated 15 working days, depending on weather conditions.
Looking ahead, we anticipate moving forward with the same project on Commonwealth East to take place sometime in the fall. We will also be working on various components of the master plan, including gateway features along Columbia.
