Black History Month | Franklin County Public Health
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. As an organization, equity is our north star, and we work daily to address and close the gaps of health disparities in our communities. We take this time to reflect, learn and express gratitude to those who have contributed to the field of public health.
Someone we admire and thank for her contribution to public health is Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. Nadine is a pediatrician and the former Surgeon General of California and has contributed greatly to our understanding of the link between adverse childhood experiences, trauma and toxic stress.
