For the 10th consecutive year, Westerville City Schools has received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction — a rare feat among the 6,000 public entities audited by the state.
“It’s even more rare to receive the award 10 years in a row,” State Auditor Keith Faber said during Monday’s board meeting. “That means your books and records have to be perfect. You can’t even have a public record violation or you won’t get the award.”
Faber attended the meeting to recognize Treasurer/CFO Nicole Marshall and the district’s Treasurer Office with the award. He said less than 3.6 percent of the entities his office audits receive the State Auditor’s Award of Distinction. Marshall thanked the board, district leadership and staff for accomplishing this significant feat.
“Without the expectations and examples from the Board and support from district leadership and staff, this would not be possible,” Marshall said. “This award requires a team effort and it shows how dedicated our entire district is to ensuring that taxpayers’ dollars are spent appropriately.”
The district received the commendation following its state audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021. There were no findings against the district in the FY2021 state audit. In addition, the auditor’s office didn’t find any issues that would necessitate a management letter.
“You can’t have perfect books and records without support from your Board, your superintendent, all of your staff and your entire community,” Faber said to Marshall. “On behalf of the people in the State Auditor’s office, it is my honor to recognize you as one of Ohio’s very finest treasurers for a school district.”
